The French Beauty Academy to establish the Future Entrepreneur Scholarship, a program designed to support hair and beauty graduates towards sustainable business ownership. Selected from a competitive cohort of graduating students, Sophie Baker, founder of SXPHIELASHES, has been named the first recipient of the scholarship. Sophie stood out in the application and interview process for her commercially-driven mind-set, the establishment of a client base, and strong digital presence. These qualities are increasingly essential in an industry where more than 70 percent of new clients discover services online. As social media, personal branding and flexible work models lower barriers to entry, more graduates are launching their own businesses, and launching earlier than ever. This creates new opportunities, but with those opportunities come new challenges.

While technical standards across beauty and hair education remain high, it is business capability, rather than technical skill, that is the strongest predictor of long-term success. More than half of independent beauty businesses close within their first three years, with new business owners lacking confidence and knowledge in managing business fundamentals. Recognising this industry reality, Salon Lane and The French Beauty Academy designed the new scholarship to create a direct pathway from education to entrepreneurship. It provides an emerging professional with access to structured mentoring, commercial training, community and professional infrastructure from day one. Its aim is to accelerate early-stage business success. “The Australian hair and beauty industries produce exceptional talent, but talent alone doesn’t build a sustainable business,” said Jared Keen, Co-Founder and CEO of Salon Lane. “What emerging professionals need is guidance, systems, and real world support. Our partnership with The French Beauty Academy creates a bridge between education and entrepreneurship so graduates can launch with confidence.”
